Setting Powerful Goals and Motivation for 2025

Here at AJ McDee, when new clients submit their ‘before photos,’ they almost always come with expressions of dismay.

And you know what?

That makes perfect sense – if we were completely happy with where we are, we wouldn’t be taking on the challenge of self-improvement in 2025. While comparing before photos to progress photos can be motivating (there’s nothing quite like visually seeing those changes happening!), those results often come slower than we’d like.

Generally, we need about 30-60 days to really start seeing noticeable changes.

So, how do we stay motivated during that initial period when working toward our goals and motivation for 2025?

The answer lies in setting SMART goals – a proven framework that has helped countless clients achieve their fitness and wellness goals and motivation for the new year. Let’s break down what SMART really means:

  • Specific: Your goal needs to clearly state what will be done and who will do it. Instead of saying “I want to get in shape,” specify exactly what that means to you.
  • Measurable: Progress should be tracked through concrete metrics, whether that’s a percentage increase, weight loss, or another quantifiable measure.
  • Achievable: While your goal should challenge you, it needs to be realistic. This doesn’t mean setting easy goals – it means setting goals that will push you while still being within reach.
  • Relevant: Your goal should align with your broader life objectives and what truly matters to you.
  • Time-bound: Set a clear deadline for achieving your goal. This creates urgency and helps maintain focus.

Let me share some powerful examples of SMART goals and motivation for 2025 from our successful clients:

“I want to wear a size 8 on my cruise in June 2025.”

“I want to reduce my blood pressure and come off medication by December 2025.”

“I want to be able to hike easy mountain trails with my grandchildren by autumn 2025.”

“I want to complete my first 5K run on St. Patrick’s Day 2025.”

“I want to reach 20% body fat by my wedding day in July 2025.”

“I want to have defined shoulders and reduce my waistline by 2 inches before our beach vacation in summer 2025.”

“I want to improve my balance enough to start roller skating again by March 2025.”

To maintain focus on your goals and motivation throughout 2025, visibility is key.

Make your goals impossible to ignore!

Want to reach a certain dress size? Pull out that aspirational piece of clothing and look at it every single day. Try it on every 2-3 weeks to track your progress.

Aiming to run a 5K? Register for a specific race right now and start your training plan. Even better, recruit a friend or coworkers to join you – accountability can be a powerful motivator.

If your goal involves improving health markers, schedule a candid discussion with your doctor about your objectives. Set up regular check-ups to monitor how your bloodwork responds to your lifestyle changes.

At the very minimum, write down your top three “whys” – the deep, meaningful reasons behind your goals – and post them where you’ll see them daily: your bathroom mirror, car dashboard, or refrigerator door.

Remember this crucial timeline: it typically takes 4-6 weeks for you to start noticing results, and 6-8 weeks for others to see changes in you.

But here’s the beautiful truth – if you stay consistent with your goals and motivation in 2025, you WILL achieve results. The key is to keep showing up, stay connected to your why, and trust the process.

Are you ready to make 2025 your year of transformation?

Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment – there’s no better time than right now to start working toward your goals. Grab a pen, write down those SMART goals, and let’s make this your most successful year yet!

Best, AJ McDee
